1:1 亞哈死後，摩押背叛以色列。 After Ahab's death, Moab rebelled against Israel.
1:2 亞哈謝在撒馬利亞，一日從樓上的欄杆裏掉下來，就病了；於是差遣使者說：「你們去問以革倫的神巴力西卜，我這病能好不能好。」 Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers, saying to them, <<Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury.>>
1:3 但耶和華的使者對提斯比人以利亞說：「你起來，去迎著撒馬利亞王的使者，對他們說：『你們去問以革倫神巴力西卜，豈因以色列中沒有　神嗎？』 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, <<Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, <Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?>
1:4 所以耶和華如此說：『你必不下你所上的，必定要死！』」以利亞就去了。 Therefore this is what the LORD says: <You will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!> >> So Elijah went.
1:5 使者回來見王，王問他們說：「你們為甚麼回來呢？」 When the messengers returned to the king, he asked them, <<Why have you come back?>>
1:6 使者回答說：「有一個人迎著我們來，對我們說：『你們回去見差你們來的王，對他說：耶和華如此說，你差人去問以革倫神巴力西卜，豈因以色列中沒有　神嗎？所以你必不下所上的，必定要死。』」 <<A man came to meet us,>> they replied. <<And he said to us, <Go back to the king who sent you and tell him, <<This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending men to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!>> > >>
1:7 王問他們說：「迎著你們來告訴你們這話的，是怎樣的人？」 The king asked them, <<What kind of man was it who came to meet you and told you this?>>
1:8 回答說：「他身穿毛衣，腰束皮帶。」王說：「這必是提斯比人以利亞。」 They replied, <<He was a man with a garment of hair and with a leather belt around his waist.>> The king said, <<That was Elijah the Tishbite.>>
1:9 於是，王差遣五十夫長，帶領五十人去見以利亞，他就上到以利亞那裏；以利亞正坐在山頂上。五十夫長對他說：「神人哪，王吩咐你下來！」 Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, <<Man of God, the king says, <Come down!> >>
1:10 以利亞回答說：「我若是神人，願火從天上降下來，燒滅你和你那五十人！」於是有火從天上降下來，燒滅五十夫長和他那五十人。 Elijah answered the captain, <<If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!>> Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men.
1:11 王第二次差遣一個五十夫長，帶領五十人去見以利亞。五十夫長對以利亞說：「神人哪，王吩咐你快快下來！」 At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him, <<Man of God, this is what the king says, <Come down at once!> >>
1:12 以利亞回答說：「我若是神人，願火從天上降下來，燒滅你和你那五十人！」於是　神的火從天上降下來，燒滅五十夫長和他那五十人。 <<If I am a man of God,>> Elijah replied, <<may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!>> Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.
1:13 王第三次差遣一個五十夫長，帶領五十人去。這五十夫長上去，雙膝跪在以利亞面前，哀求他說：「神人哪，願我的性命和你這五十個僕人的性命在你眼前看為寶貴！ So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. <<Man of God,>> he begged, <<please have respect for my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants!
1:14 已經有火從天上降下來，燒滅前兩次來的五十夫長和他們各自帶的五十人；現在願我的性命在你眼前看為寶貴！」 See, fire has fallen from heaven and consumed the first two captains and all their men. But now have respect for my life!>>
1:15 耶和華的使者對以利亞說：「你同著他下去，不要怕他！」以利亞就起來，同著他下去見王， The angel of the LORD said to Elijah, <<Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.>> So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.
1:16 對王說：「耶和華如此說：『你差人去問以革倫神巴力西卜，豈因以色列中沒有　神可以求問嗎？所以你必不下所上的，必定要死！』」 He told the king, <<This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!>>
1:17 亞哈謝果然死了，正如耶和華藉以利亞所說的話。因他沒有兒子，他兄弟約蘭接續他作王，正在猶大王約沙法的兒子約蘭第二年。 So he died, according to the word of the LORD that Elijah had spoken. Because Ahaziah had no son, Joram 1:17 Hebrew ((Jehoram,)) a variant of ((Joram)) succeeded him as king in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah.
1:18 亞哈謝其餘所行的事都寫在以色列諸王記上。 As for all the other events of Ahaziah's reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

    「祂又領我到寬闊之處，祂救拔我，因祂喜悅我。」詩篇十八篇19節

    這「寬闊之處」究竟是甚麼呢？這不是別的，乃是神自己─一切生命河流的歸宿。神實在是一個寬闊之處。大衛被領到寬闊之處，是先經過羞恥和侮辱的。

    「我如鷹將你們背在翅膀上，帶來歸我。」（出十九章4節）

    我畏懼把船開到如怒如狂的波浪裏，
    我問主：
    「我這小舟將被潮水帶往何方，
    是否要到翻騰的大海」？
    主回答說：
    「帶來到我身旁」。

    我站在敞的墓穴之旁，
    憂心如焚，
    痛苦的靈魂向神發出哀號：
    「我主的這條苦路通往何方」？
    祂說：
    「這是歸我之道」。
    我願為靈魂的解放而努力，
    可是一受挫，
    我不明白其中奧秘，
    直到祂說：
    「我是你的一切；
    　我喚你歸向真神」。

    自從我到了祂的心中，
    我的幸福非言語所可形容，
    昔日的留戀都成虛幻；
    　　我被帶入祂的心中。

    "He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me; because he delighted in me." (Psa. 18:19.)

    　ＡND what is this "large place?" What can it be but God Himself, that infinite Being in whom all other beings and all other streams of life terminate? God is a large place indeed. And it was through humiliation, through abasement, through nothingness that David was brought into it.

    "I bare you on eagle's wings, and brought you unto myself."(Exod. 19:4.)

    I asked the Lord where would its waters glide
    My little bark, "To troubled seas I dread?"
    "Unto Myself," He said.

    In bitterness of soul I cried to God:
    "Where leads this path of sorrow that I tread?"
    "Unto Myself," He said.

    Striving for souls, I loved the work too well;
    Then disappointments came; I could not tell
    The reason, till He said, "I am thine all;
    Unto Myself I call."

    Unto Himself! No earthly tongue can tell
    The bliss I find, since in His heart I dwell;
    The things that charmed me once seen all as naught;
    Unto Himself I'm brought.

    八月廿一日　基督與祂釘十字架

    「我曾定了主意，在你們中間不知道別的，只知道耶穌基督並祂釘十字架，我講的道是用聖靈大能的明證。」哥林多前書二章2、4節

    這節經文很清楚指出保羅傳福音的目的，使人知道耶穌基督並祂釘十字架。但這有很深遠的思想，這話的目的說出釘十字架的基督，不僅是祂講道的內容，也是祂以聖靈及生命證明的事實，哥林多後書十三章8節也說到：「基督因軟弱被釘十字架上，卻因神的大能仍然活著，我們也是這樣同祂軟弱，但因神向你們所顯的大能，也必與祂同活。」他整個職事和談話，都以基督的樣式為中心——因軟弱被釘在十字架上，因神的大能卻仍然活著。

    在今天經文的前面（一18）保羅這樣寫道：「十字架的道理在那滅亡的人為愚拙，在我們得救的人卻為神的大能。」這不僅是他所傳的道理，也是謙卑與釘十字架的基督同弱者所有的性情和舉止品行，他也證明自己與十字架及其羞恥同弱，而基督整個生命都在尋求像釘十字架耶穌的靈；這而第二章3節他也說道：「我在你們那裏又軟弱，又懼怕，又甚戰兢。」

    根據這點他說了極強的話：「基督差遣我……，乃是為傳福音，並不用智慧的言語，免得基督的十字架落了空。」（一17）「我講的道不是用智慧委婉的言語，乃是用聖靈和大能的明證。」（二4）在此可說明我們傳福音為什麼只有如此少神大能的明證？從人間學習及口才所傳釘十字架基督的主題，自然無法與超自然神聖大能釘十字架基督相比。

    神要幫助我們每位傳道人和信徒明白：我們要像教會所擺出的標記一樣——除了耶穌基督並祂十字架，沒有別的。

    八月廿一日　人所不注意的貢獻

    「虛心的人有福了。」馬太福音五章3節

    照我們的標準看，新約所注意的事，似乎是無關鴻旨的。「虛心的人有福了」，照原文是貧民有福了，貧民多極了，普遍極了！最易引起我們注意的，是堅強的意志，優美的品性。「為基督決志」一語，是我們常常聽見的。可惜這不是我們的主所喜歡聽的話。祂絕不要我們為祂決志，卻是要我們歸服，決志與歸服是絕對不同的事。耶穌基督天國的基礎，是建在愛平常事物的心的上面。我蒙福正是因為我貧窮。如果我知道我沒有堅強的意志，沒有高尚的性質，那不要緊，耶穌就要說──你是有福的，因為經過了這種貧窮，才能進入天國。我不能像一個好男女進天國，只能像一個完全的貧民才得進去。

    那真正表揚神的愛之性質者，總是出於無意的。有意識的感力是自大的，非基督化的。如果我說，「我不知我有無用處，」我立刻就失去了與主的接觸。「信我的人，從他腹中要流出活水的江河來。」（約七38）如果我考察流出來的東西，我就失去了與主的接觸。

    最感動我們的，是那一種人呢？不是那些常想到自己是感動我們的人，卻是那些絕沒有想到感動我們的人。在基督徒的生活裡，全無有為而為的有意行動，如果有所為，那與基督接觸所生的愛就馬上消滅了。我們常是知道耶穌甚麼時候在工作，因為祂在常人所不注意的事上發生興趣。

    八月廿一日

    「……不要因這大軍恐懼……因為勝敗不在乎你們，乃在乎神。」歷代志下廿章15節

    得勝的秘訣在於把所有的戰役都視為神的。再說，勝敗本來就在乎神，我們根本不必爭戰。但是如果我們計算我們的危險、責任，立刻就會被恐懼分散了我們的心。相反的，如果我們知道神必定會像照顧祂的產業、祂的代表那樣地看顧我們，我們就會感到無限的放心、安全。

    假使我派我的雇工出一趟遠門，我就必須負責他的一切花費，並且保護他的安全。神比我們信實，想必更會為我們負責到底。如果我們屬於主，而且把生命、家庭，以及一切所有都交在祂的手中，祂絕對會照顧我們。

    就像一個牧人的興趣，乃在於把他的羊養得肥肥壯壯的、照顧得服服貼貼，使人禁不住讚賞一樣。神對我們這屬於祂的靈魂體，也深具同樣的興趣。

    「感謝神！常帥領我們在基督裡誇勝……」。(林後二14)

    興起，興起為耶穌，
    當靠祂剛強站穩；
    因肉體的私慾將拖垮你，
    千萬不要依恃你自己。
